Hi guys, left my PS5 plugged into a wall socket on rest mode overnight to download some games - nothing unusual. Woke up this morning to discover it had turned itself off - weird. No circuit breaker tripped or anything like that.

I tried turning it on but it was completely unresponsive, no lights, sounds, nothing. I moved it to a different plug socket and plugged it in.

As soon as I plugged it in it made a fairly loud pop sound from the power port on the PS5 and tripped the breaker for that socket, the power extension plug I used is also now not working for any device I plug in

Have you guys heard of this happening before? I've been trying to reach Sony about an out of warranty repair but their site is a nightmare trying to navigate so any advice would be welcome.

Does the power extension have surge protection? It’s done its job if it has otherwise it may have caused major problems.
If there was a pop then the psu &/or the port has been damaged.

That sucks but I suspected as much from all I've read online. Yeah I was careful to check the extension had surge protection.
Thanks for your help!

Hopefully Sony will be able to repair or replace the console.
You’re welcome.
