So I was playing a game yesterday, and all of a sudden my PS5 freezes - and I couldn’t even turn it off (holding power button for 20 seconds did not work), so I had to unplug the power cord.

Since then, the console doesn’t turn on at all (no lights or beeps at all) and leaving it unplugged overnight did not help. Tried different power cables and different sockets, still the same result.

It is out of warranty by a few months so that’s great, and Sony is asking me to pay 210 GBP for repair/refurbished replacement which is insane, I feel like I’m getting scammed.

Literally no issues with the PS5 before this, it has frozen a couples times before (rarely) but I was able to turn it off and back on. Just out of completely nowhere it dies like this. I’ve only had it for just over a year too.

Is there anything I can do? Man this sucks

It sounds like the console is dead. You could change the fuse in the plug but I somehow doubt that is the cause.
You could try a store like Cex to see what their repair charges are.

Thanks. I was also thinking maybe the power supply is faulty? Maybe that needs replacement.

@gb0925, mine did the exact same thing around the same time as yours right after a recent ps5 update and BLACK ops 6 install. Now when I press the power button it beeps and the led lights won’t come on nor does the display. I’ve found others on Reddit who have reported the exact same issue. PlayStation should is responsible for this. Our consoles bricked because of the recent software update. To fix it a part of the motherboard has to be changed and that will cost you half the price of the PlayStation. In reality PlayStation should be billed for the fix not the customer.

@gb0925, it’s not the power supply but the frying of a possible SSD controller that prevents the ps from drawing enough power to boot it up. See the video below.
