PS4 Ps4 controller indicates that its charging despite not plugged in

My ps4 controller does the typical charging lights and shows the battery filling up when playing the ps4, despite not plugging it in any usb cable. It can still connect to the ps4, and will return back to the yellow lights when i turn the ps4 off.

I cannot see the battery percentage as it only shows the battery filling up, and turning off the device from the ps4 does nothing to help.
