Can you factory reset a ps5 that won't turn on?

My husband's PS5 got hit during a lightning storm and the repair shop said it would cost more than the console is worth to fix it. We're selling it to a site that buys anything regardless of condition but we want to make sure his info will be secure if they refurbish and resell it.

So is it possible to reset without being able to turn it on?

Hi and welcome

All consoles are usually wiped clean when being repaired, as they would need to reinstall the operating system when it gets repaired, so this would wipe clean the hard drive altogether. You can also log into your playstation account on the website, and deactive your account from that console.
